Pamporovo

Pamporovo is situated in the interior of Rhodopi mountain at 1650 meters above sea level, at the foot of the mountain peak Snejanka (or Snow-white). It is located approximately 220 kilometers away from the capital of Bulgaria - Sofia City, 85 kilometers souh of Plovdiv City, 15 kilometers north of Smolian town and 10 kilometers south of Chepelare town.

The climate in the area of Pamporovo is distinguished by its mild winter of more than 100 sunny days. This resort has the biggest number of sunny days per year in comparison with all other winter resorts in Bulgaria. The average annual temperature is 5.5°С.
Due to its beautiful nature, the region is visited by tourists also in the summertime.

The main tourist flow in Pamporovo resort is during the winter months, because the resort has been adapted mainly for ski sports. Nearly all ski slopes at this resort start from the peak Snejanka, as their height above sea level ranges from 1926 down to 1400 meters above sea level. The tourist season starts in December and continues almost till the end of April.

The mountain peak Snejanka is one of the One hundred national tourist sites of the Bulgarian Tourist Union. The union seal is kept at the hut “Studenets”.

The ski slopes in Pamporovo have various degree of difficulty, ranging from green – suitable for beginners, to black ones – a real challenge for the professionals. Their overall length is 37 km. The resort is supremely suitable for cross country skiing. The overall length of the cross-country routes is 25 km., crossing fascinating areas of Pamporovo to Mougla village, and the other way round.

Most numerous are the slopes for beginners – green and blue. About 90% of the pistes have been equipped with artificial snow system, which ensures constant snow cover throughout the winter season, regardless of the relatively low altitude. The total number of hydrant pits in the ski zone of Pamporovo is 145, on which snow cannons can be mounted. The current number of functioning snow cannons amounts to 80; this number is to be gradually increased every year.

Since the beginning of season 2009/2010, the resort offers night skiing on illuminated ski run STENATA-2 (The wall-2), every day starting at 5:30 P.M. till 10:00 P.M.
